Gone but not lost (concept)

Ik ben nu al enige tijd bezig met het eind project van het Qantm college.
Het leek me leuk om zo nu en dan de vooruitgang van de 3D animatie op dit blog te posten met als uitgangspunt the making of.

Om te beginnen moest ik een verhaal verzinnen (aangezien de opleiding Engelstalig is zijn al deze teksten dan ook engels).

Synopsis
When Davey’s brother Timothy died in front of his eyes it seems that he can’t handle the loose of his brother. After the ceremony Davey visits the grave of his brother and noticed that his brother is gone but not lost. This experience opens his mind and gives Davey a different more acceptable idea between living and dying.

Story
Davey and Timothy are playing together. They laugh and run after a ball. Certainly Davey gives the ball a strong kick and the ball bounces on the street.
Timothy runs after the ball and picks it up from the ground.
A loud noise, Davey shocks and looks frightened. He is stunned by the extreme noise of an unexpected car that's approaching Timothy in full speed.
Timothy turns around and looks right in the lights of the approaching car. A second loud noise. Timothy is hit and rolls over the street.
Davey can't believe it, not his little brother!
At Timothy's last breath his hand opens and a ladybird is flying out of it.

A week later David is standing after the ceremony by his brothers grave. Tears roll over his cheek. He wanted to tell him so much more. At the gravestone are the words spelled: “Timothy Jones, At far too young at age you leaved the world we know. That you may smile forever”.
All of a sudden the same ladybird which appeared on the day Timothy died is flying over the graveyard. It nearly looks like the ladybird is looking for the right gravestone. When the ladybird is closing by and sees Davey crying it flies towards Davey and lands on his hand.

Davey noticed this and looks confused to the ladybird on his hand.
Davey recognizes it and for a moment they have eye contact.
It is like the ladybird brings the memories about Timothy alive.
Timothy knows that he didn’t lost his brother forever, his brother is temporally gone but not lost.

Er zijn ondertussen (moving) storyboards gemaakt, concept art en verder is er veel voorbereidend werk vooraf gegaan.
Ik ben de afgelopen 3 weken flink aan het moduleren geweest en ben bijna klaar om te beginnen met animeren.
Ik heb even als voorproefje een render gemaakt van wat ik nu heb. Er moet nog wat aan texturing gebeuren hier en daar (kleurgeving) maar zoals je ziet zijn de modellen en belichting aanwezig.
Zoals je ziet is de set nog niet volledig compleet, hier en daar moeten nog bomen en grafstenen komen. Ook staat Davey nog in de zo genoemde T pose, dit is de houding waarin een character het makkelijkst te riggin en skinnen is (botten en vlees toevoegen)

Ook heb ik wat concept art voor Davey. Een 2D tekening van Davey van de zijkant.

Dat ziet er veelbelovend uit. Het thema is best lastig. Als ik jou was, zou ik het zo luchtig mogelijk houden.

Kort geleden was je aan het experimenteren met emotie bij het grafisch ontwerp. Misschien een tip: de vlinder leent zich erg goed om een emotie over te brengen. De animatie van de vlinder is misschien nog wel belangrijker als de animatie van "Davey". Er zit een enorme symboliek in de figuur van de vlinder. Deze vlinder zou je een groot deel van de boodschap over kunnen brengen.

De emotie die je aanspreekt via de vlinder zou "hoop" kunnen zijn of "troost".

De emotie via "Davey" zal in het begin "verdriet" zijn. Maar als laatste misschien wel "berusting" of "blijdschap".

Je hebt dan eigenlijk een tweede storyboard nodig. De eerste laat het verhaal zien, en het tweede laat de verschillende emoties zien die je wilt aanspreken.
